Accountant Tools for Indian Finance Professionals

Accounting in India is governed by a framework that includes the Companies Act 2013, Income Tax Act 1961, GST Act 2017, and Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) aligned with IFRS. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), established in 1949, is the world's second-largest accounting body with over 3.5 lakh members as of 2024. Indian accountants, CAs, and finance teams handle a uniquely complex regulatory environment - managing GST compliance across multiple states, TDS deductions, advance tax instalments, and ROC filings simultaneously throughout the financial year (April to March).

Key Tasks for Indian Accountants

This tools hub brings together essential calculators used daily by accounting professionals: TDS computation across payment categories, GST calculation for mixed-rate invoices, depreciation under both Companies Act and Income Tax Act schedules (SLM and WDV methods), EMI schedules for loan accounting, and profit/margin analysis. Annual compliance deadlines include ITR filing (31 July for non-audit, 31 October for audit), GST annual return GSTR-9 (31 December), and TDS quarterly returns due within 31 days of quarter end.

Simplifying Compliance Workload

Accountants managing multiple clients - especially in the MSME segment of India's 63 million small businesses - benefit from quick-access online tools that eliminate manual formula errors and reduce spreadsheet dependency. Each tool in this hub is optimised for Indian financial year conventions, tax rates, and regulatory formats used in actual practice.

Accounting Tools FAQ

The GST invoice generator on RubanTools produces invoices that follow the format prescribed under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, 2017 - including supplier GSTIN, place of supply, HSN/SAC codes, CGST/SGST/IGST breakdowns and the taxable value for each line item. The output is legally valid when you fill in all mandatory fields correctly, sign the invoice (physically or digitally) and issue it within the time limits. The tool is a formatting aid; maintaining your GSTN registration, filing GST returns and e-invoicing compliance under the e-Invoice portal remain your responsibility.

Section 194 covers TDS on dividends paid by domestic companies to resident individuals at 10% when the dividend exceeds ₹5,000 in a financial year. For other common sections: 192 (salary - per slab), 194A (bank FD interest - 10%), 194C (contractor payments - 1% for individuals/HUF, 2% for companies), 194J (professional/technical fees - 10%), 194I (rent - 10% for plant/machinery, 2% for land/building). Our TDS calculator covers all major sections - enter the payment type, recipient PAN status and amount, and it applies the correct rate and shows the net payable amount.

The old regime allows deductions under 80C (up to ₹1.5 lakh), HRA exemption (Sec 10(13A)), standard deduction (₹50,000 for salaried), home loan interest (up to ₹2 lakh) and many others, but applies higher slab rates. The new regime (default from FY 2023-24) has lower slab rates - nil up to ₹3 lakh, 5% for ₹3–7 lakh, 10% for ₹7–10 lakh, 15% for ₹10–12 lakh, 20% for ₹12–15 lakh and 30% above ₹15 lakh - with a ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried individuals, but most other deductions are disallowed. Our income tax calculator compares both regimes side by side so you can advise clients which saves more tax.

Under the Payment of Gratuity Act 1972, gratuity = (Last drawn basic salary + DA) × 15/26 × completed years of service. The factor 15/26 represents 15 days' pay calculated on a 26-working-day month. A minimum of 5 years of continuous service is required, except in case of death or disablement. The tax-exempt limit is ₹20 lakh for private sector employees. For government employees and those covered under a different gratuity scheme, the formula may differ. Our gratuity calculator handles both covered and non-covered employees and shows the taxable and exempt portions clearly.
