A pregnancy week tracker calculates gestational age from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP) - the clinical standard used worldwide. A full-term pregnancy spans approximately 40 weeks (280 days) from LMP, divided into three trimesters. The first trimester (weeks 1-12) covers organogenesis - the formation of all major organs. The second trimester (weeks 13-26) is marked by noticeable fetal movement (quickening). The third trimester (weeks 27-40) involves rapid weight gain and lung maturation in preparation for birth.
India's Maternal Mortality Ratio fell from 254 per 100,000 live births in 2004-06 to 97 per 100,000 in 2018-20, reflecting improvements in antenatal care access. Government programmes like Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) incentivise institutionalised delivery and regular antenatal check-ups. The Ministry of Health recommends at least four antenatal visits, with the first ideally before 12 weeks. Knowing your exact gestational week helps schedule these visits and ultrasound scans (NT scan at 11-13 weeks, anomaly scan at 18-20 weeks) at the correct times.
Enter the first day of your last menstrual period and the tool calculates your current week and day, estimated due date (EDD), and trimester. It then displays developmental milestones relevant to your current week - from embryonic disc formation at week 3 to the baby's approximate weight and length at week 36. This information supports, but does not replace, guidance from a registered gynaecologist or MBBS doctor.
