Quantities are based on IS 10262 nominal mix with dry volume factor 1.54. Add 5-10% wastage for actual procurement. Water-cement ratio assumed 0.5. Actual water requirement may vary with aggregate grading and admixtures.

Dry volume = wet volume x 1.54. For M20 (1:1.5:3), sum of parts = 5.5. Cement volume = (1/5.5) x dry vol. Multiply by density (1440 kg/m3) to get kg, divide by 50 for bags. Same logic for sand (density 1600 kg/m3) and aggregate (1440 kg/m3).

For 1 m3 of M20: dry vol = 1.54 m3. Cement = (1/5.5) x 1.54 x 1440 = 403 kg = approximately 8.07 bags. Add 10% wastage, so procure 9 bags. Sand = 672 kg. Aggregate = 1209 kg. Water = 202 litres (W/C = 0.5).

The grade number = characteristic compressive strength in N/mm2 at 28 days. M15 for non-structural PCC. M20 is minimum for RCC per IS 456. M25 for columns, slabs with higher loads. M30 for bridges and high-rise structures. Higher grade means more cement and less sand/aggregate per unit.
