Sports Calculators FAQ

Running pace (min/km) = Total time in seconds / Distance in km / 60. For example, running 10 km in 55 minutes: pace = (55 x 60) / 10 / 60 = 5.5 minutes = 5:30 per km. Our running pace calculator accepts any two of distance, time, pace or speed and instantly computes the remaining values with a split table for common race distances.

The predictor uses Riegel's formula: T2 = T1 x (D2/D1)^1.06. It is accurate to within 5-10% for trained runners. Accuracy is lower for first-time marathoners who may lack the long-run training base, or when predicting from a very short known distance. Training paces (easy, tempo, interval) are also generated based on the predicted marathon time.

VO2 max is your maximum oxygen uptake - the best measure of aerobic fitness. Two field tests: (1) Cooper 12-minute run - run as far as possible in 12 minutes. VO2max = (metres - 504.9) / 44.73. (2) Rockport 1-mile walk test - walk 1 mile and record time and heart rate at finish. Our calculator handles both and shows your ACSM fitness category and training heart rate zones.

Cycling at 25 km/h is vigorous intensity with MET approximately 10.0. Calories = MET x weight (kg) x duration (hours). A 70 kg cyclist for 1 hour at 25 km/h burns approximately 700 kcal. Our cycling calculator covers light to racing pace with MET values from 4.0 to 16.0 and also includes a gear ratio calculator and speed/time/distance converter.
