Fuel Economy Converter

Convert between km/L, L/100km, US mpg and UK mpg. Compare fuel efficiency across countries.

UnitValue

L/100km is an inverse measure - lower = more efficient. Other units: higher = more efficient.

When to Convert Fuel Economy

Buying a Foreign Car

Convert US or UK fuel economy ratings to km/L (Indian standard) for real-world comparison.

Fuel Cost Estimation

Understand your car's L/100km to calculate how much fuel you'll use for a trip.

Road Trips Abroad

Convert between European L/100km and Indian km/L to plan fuel budget overseas.

Environmental Comparison

Compare fuel efficiency of different vehicle models across their home-country rating systems.

Logistics & Fleet

Standardise fuel economy data across your fleet where different vehicles use different units.

Car Reviews & Research

Cross-reference international car review fuel economy figures to Indian km/L equivalents.

Fuel Economy Questions

L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L. Examples: 10 km/L = 10 L/100km; 20 km/L = 5 L/100km; 25 km/L = 4 L/100km. Lower L/100km = more efficient.

15 km/L = 15 × 2.35215 = 35.28 US mpg. In UK mpg: 15 × 2.82481 = 42.37 UK mpg. Indian cars with 15 km/L are comparable to a 35 mpg car in the US.

The US gallon = 3.785 litres; the UK (Imperial) gallon = 4.546 litres. So a car achieving 40 UK mpg = 33 US mpg - about 20% less when converted. Always check which gallon a review uses.

For a petrol hatchback: 15–20 km/L is good. Diesel cars: 20–25 km/L on highways. Hybrids and EVs don't use fuel, so comparison needs adjustment for electricity cost per km instead.

If you drive 15,000 km/year and petrol is ₹105/L: improving from 12 to 11 L/100km saves 15,000 × (12−11)/100 = 150 litres × ₹105 = ₹15,750/year. Efficiency differences compound significantly over time.
