Country Dial Codes - International Calling Made Simple

International subscriber dialling (ISD) codes - also called country calling codes - are numerical prefixes assigned by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the E.164 standard to route telephone calls across national networks. The system was standardised in 1960 and has been maintained ever since. India's country code is +91, assigned as part of the Zone 9 (South Asia) block. When dialling internationally from India, you first dial 00 (the international access code), then the destination country code, then the local number.

India's International Calling Context

With over 32 million Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in countries ranging from the USA (+1) and UAE (+971) to the UK (+44), Canada (+1), and Australia (+61), international calls are a daily necessity for millions of Indian families. India's telecom market had over 1.17 billion mobile subscribers as of 2024 (TRAI data), and international calling plans from Airtel, Jio, and BSNL are among the most competitively priced globally. Businesses exporting to or importing from foreign markets must also verify dial codes for invoice contact details, KYC documentation under FEMA rules, and customer service portals.

How to Use This Directory

Search by country name or dial code number to instantly retrieve the ITU-assigned calling code and ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code. The directory covers all 249 ITU-recognised territories. Use it to format international phone numbers correctly for WhatsApp Business, CRM systems, immigration forms, and overseas money transfers through SWIFT/NEFT-linked services.

Country Dial Code Questions

India's international dial code is +91. To call an Indian mobile number from abroad, dial your country's exit code (e.g. 00 or +) followed by 91 and then the 10-digit Indian mobile number. Example from UK: +91 98765 43210.

Key international dial codes: USA and Canada = +1, United Kingdom = +44, United Arab Emirates = +971, Australia = +61, Germany = +49, Singapore = +65, Saudi Arabia = +966. Use the search tool above to find the code for any country.

Dial code and ISD (International Subscriber Dialling) code refer to the same thing - the country calling code. The + prefix is the international access code (equivalent to 00 in many countries). So +91 and 0091 both dial India.

Dial 00 (India's exit code) + country dial code + area code (if any) + local number. For example, to call a UK number (+44 20 1234 5678): dial 00 44 20 1234 5678. On a mobile, long-press the 0 key to enter the + symbol instead of 00.

Some codes are shared by multiple countries: +1 covers the USA, Canada, and many Caribbean nations under the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). +7 covers Russia and Kazakhstan. +61 covers Australia and its territories. Within shared codes, the area or subscriber number prefix identifies the exact destination.
