Slug Generator FAQ

A slug is the URL-friendly part of a web address that identifies a specific page. For example, in example.com/blog/best-php-tools, the slug is best-php-tools. Slugs use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens - no spaces or special characters - making them readable, shareable, and SEO-friendly.

Google treats hyphens as word separators (best practice for SEO) but treats underscores as part of the word. Use hyphens (-) for blog posts and page slugs. Underscores (_) are acceptable for file names or internal identifiers where SEO is not a concern.

Keep slugs short and meaningful - ideally under 60 characters. Include your primary keyword. Remove stop words like "a", "an", "the", "and" unless they are part of a proper noun. Shorter slugs are easier to share and tend to rank slightly better.
